Acting Up

Local youth theatre group in Mason, Ohio. Their goal is to get young people involved in the theatre process from constructing the sets, making the costumes to producing full blown theatrical performances.  Shows are performed at one of the Mason City Schools.  Click here to see what their current show is.

Calico Children's Theatre

Calico Children's Theatre is a community arts group through the University of Cincinnati at their UC Clermont location. You can buy season tickets (3 shows for $16) or buy individual show tickets ($5-7). 

Children's Theatre of Cincinnati

The CTC is a professional theatre group that specializes in shows for children. They now have their own home off of Red Bank Rd. but will continue to perform their main stage shows at the Taft Theatre in downtown Cincinnati. They also offer summer camps, performinc arts classes, TCT Academy and TCT on Tour.

Cincinnati Arts Association

The Cincinnati Arts Association is a non-profit organization that brings the arts to Cincinnati.  Hosting venues include the Aronoff Center for the Arts, Cincinnati Music Hall and Weston Art Gallery.

Cincinnati Ballet

If you want to introduce your child to the beautiful world of ballet, then you'll need to see one of these premier performances. They offer subscription show packages where you can pick 3, 4, 5 or 6 shows to see.   There is also a family package. 

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company

The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is a resident ensemble theatre company in downtown Cincinnati. They also offer FREE shows during the summer months with Shakespeare in the Park performances. 

The Children's Theatre of Mason

The CTM is a non-profit theatre group for local youth. They not only put on full scale theatrical prodcutions but they also have acting classes, summer camps and more.

Cincinnati Landmark Productions

CLP oversees the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater, Covedale Center for the Performing Arts and the Cincinnati Young People's Theatre. 

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park has a group of talented peformers who tour around Greater Cincinnati and do shows at local venues called Off the Hill. Shows are either FREE or have a nominal admission charge. They also have acting classes and summer camps. Cincinnati Playhouse also has main stage productions in their theaters in Mt. Adams. 

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra

If you've ever wanted to take your children to a live symphony performance but were worried that they wouldn't like it, well look no further because you can take them to the CSO.  Make plans to go to the Lollipop Family Concerts where children ages 3-10 and their families are invited to a concert specifically geared towards them.  Come a little bit early since they always have something going on in the lobby to enjoy before the performance. Shows Performances usually held at Music Hall but since Music Hall is currently undergoing renovations look for CSO to perform at other venues in Cincinnati like the Taft Theatre. 

Clifton Performance Theater

Clifton Performance Theater is home to the Clifton Players and they offer drama, dance and vocal classes for kids of all ages. They have a lot of walk-in dance classes form hip-hop to ballet to fairy tale drama/dance.  See one of their many children's theatre productions during the year.  This is an affordable way to have your children see live theatre. 

 

Note: My girls did one of their theatre workshops and it was great since it was a small intimate group of kids that worked on the production. At the end of the workshop they put on a full production. This was a wonderful experience for them. Just wish they were closer to Mason.

College Conservatory of Music - University of Cincinnati

Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati

Located in  Over-the-Rhine, a visit to the ETC is a must do.  The theatre is small and intimate, the performances are top knotch and the sets and costumes are always first rate.

Fantastic Free Fridays - Miami University Middletown

Dave Finkelman Auditorium

Fantastic Free Fridays  is intended to provide free opportunities for students in area schools and members of the public to enjoy live performances. Each performance lasts one hour unless otherwise noted. Group reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Individual walk-ins are always welcome. All performances are held in the Dave Finkelman Auditorium at Miami University Middletown. You need to reserve seats to attend. 

Fitton Center for Performing Arts

Offering a multitude of arts events, programs and classes (for kids and adults) throughout the year.  They also have Fitton Family Fridays which brings in wonderful performers to entertain the entire family (best for kids ages 4-16).  The Mad Anthony Theatre offers quality plays with their "resident drama group".

Lebanon Theatre Company

In addition to their live theater performances during the year, the LTC offers summer camps for kids. Check for their upcoming shows since they also audition your performers to be a part of their shows. 

Linton Music - Peanut Butter & Jam Sessions

If you have a child between ages 2-6 and you want to introduce them to some classical music while making it both fun and entertaining, then you check out Linton's Peanut Butter & Jam sessions. They appear in various locations throughout the tri-state.

Know Theatre of Cincinnati

I love going to the Know Theatre. It is a smaller more intimate theatre setting that has made its home in an old building in Over-the-Rhine. The bottom level has a bar and small seating area perfect for a drink before the show and then you head upstairs to theatre. There is a secure parking garage right across the street (Gateway Garage) and there are some great restaurants close by. They are geared more towards adults. Tickets are reasonably priced too.

Madcap Puppets

You've got to love these big adorable puppets!  I've seen the Madcap group at a couple of locations throughout Cincinnati (the Zoo, the Cincinnati Art Museum) and they have been so entertaining. They are a touring company so you need to find them at various locations in Cincinnati. The Hats Off Series is a great way to enjoy the Madcap Puppets.

The Arts Council of West Chester & Liberty

Community art council founded in 1996.  They have art programs and offer events during the year. Visit them on Facebook for all their latest news.

The Arts Alliance

The Arts Alliance is a wonderful organization dedicated to promoting local arts. Please visit their website for more information and to see if they have some any upcoming events to attend. Offices are located at The. This lovely home is the hub of arts in Mason, Ohio/Deerfield Twp. with summer camps, adult and children’s arts classes, art workshops and artists salons. You can also find updates on their Facebook page. Their Performing Arts series is a great way to introduce children to the arts. Performances are very inexpensive or FREE to attend. 

The Carnegie

Located in Covington, KY, The Carnegie is a wonderful home to the arts in Northern KY.  You'll find seasonal art galleries, educational classes for all ages, theatre performances and so much more. Both my girls have done summer camps at The Carnegie and loved it. I just wish we lived closer during the school year.
