“Get Fit at Liberty” – Challenge Accepted, Family Style
One of the advantages of living in Mason is having easy access to Liberty Center. Liberty Center not only has shopping but also incorporates a variety of restaurants, entertainment, community and wellness programs and family-centered green spaces to enhance your visit.
I was honored to be asked to participate in their blogger “Get Fit at Liberty Center” challenge to highlight some of the ways Liberty Center is helping to make fitness, wellness and healthy eating a bit easier for its visitors. Asking my girls to go for a walk in our neighborhood is always met with, “I don’t want to” or “I’m too tired” but when asked if they wanted to go to Liberty Center, they both hopped in the car with smiles on their faces.
Liberty Center has four easy to use walking maps that combine inside (The Foundry) and outside routes. Each walking map includes total distance and number of steps. Since I had my step tracker, I was also able to keep track of our progress as we made our way through Liberty Center.
I tried on a few Calia tops at Dick's. See the top I selected in the yoga pictures below.
Our first stop was Dick’s Sporting Goods. This store is two levels and filled with sportswear, equipment and beautiful displays that really do entice you to get more active. Since I’m a bargain hunter, we bee lined to some of the sales racks and I found a cute CALIA yoga top (part of the Carrie Underwood sportswear line). Liberty Center offers yoga classes at a very nominal charge (only $5/class or $30 for unlimited class in the month). I tried my first class with some friends and loved the tranquil setting of the Unity Chapel and the peaceful and inspiring yoga class.
Yoga classes are offered in the Unity Chapel - located up the steps near Kona Grill. Beautiful space to see.
Since it was pouring outside, we walked and shopped through the indoor Foundry. I love the look and cool vibe of this space. My daughter found a fashionable shirt at the affordable Charlotte Russe. My oldest is a runner and she was able to find some great deals on a new running outfit at Old Navy.
Deals, deals, deals - Old Navy always has great deals for families.
If you’re a Mom, you know that no matter where you go, you don’t get very far without hearing, “I’m hungry”. Granted it was close to dinner time but they could have had an entire Thanksgiving feast and they would have said the same thing. In the effort of our “Get Fit” challenge, I wanted to make sure we also had a healthy meal. My girls are picky eaters so I wasn’t sure how they’d respond to trying out Deg’s Flame Grilled Chicken. They both gobbled up their meals exclaiming how good it was. Deg’s scored high marks from both of us and their non-fried fries were really tasty. Click here for additional healthy restaurant choices at Liberty Center.
Enjoy healthier "fast food" options at Deg's Flame Grilled Chicken.
After dinner, we continue our walk and since it had stopped raining, we were able to venture outside and enjoy “The Park”. If you visit with your family, you can enjoy the beautiful greenspace, a mini train display and light up bears in the fountain. When the weather warms up, they will turn on the splash pad water feature. Your kids might wear you out as they romp and play in the fountains (another great way to secretly work in some outdoor exercise and fun).
The park is a wonderful space for families to enjoy.
We spent a fun evening at Liberty Center. Shopping combined with healthy eating and walking was really easy. We walked 1.3 miles without one complaint. Wow! I hope you get the chance to visit Liberty Center with your family and take advantage of the many things it has to offer.
