Cincinnati Art Museum - A Perfect Rainy Day Adventure!
I think Mother Nature may be a bit confused. I'm not sure if she realizes that it is summer with all the rain and cloudy days we've been having. Our lawn is definitely appreciative. With more rainy days on the horizon, it's nice to have some things to do inside. We recently visited the Cincinnati Art Museum. If you've never been, please add this to your summer bucket list. Here are some reasons why you should visit:
It's FREE! This amazing and beautiful museum is FREE for everyone. Parking is only $4 but if you spend $10 in the Terrace Cafe or $15 in the museum shop then parking is FREE too. Thanks to the Richard and Lois Rosenthal Foundation for FREE admission.
I think this is a perfect welcome statue, the wide open arms say come on in!
It's FUN! Yes, art can be fun. Pick up a Family Focus Guide when you enter. It gives your kids things to look for as you go through the museum. It's sort of like an art scavenger hunt. Plus, it makes you stop and look at some amazing works of art and learn a little bit more about each of them.
A painting on the scavenger hunt, why is the girl so tired?
It's WELCOMING for families! It's nice to see a museum that welcomes families. Kids will love visiting the newly opened Rosenthal Education Center (now located on the main floor). This is a wonderful and creative space where kids can create their own art. Throughout the museum they also have interactive art areas. When we were looking at still life paintings, they had an area in the center where kids could create their own still life using magnets. Plus, they have many events throughout the year geared for kids. Family First Saturdays, Wee Wendesdays, Family Tours, Baby Tours, Art in the Making are some of the programs they offer. Just be sure to remind your kids to be respectful while in the museum and to look but not touch the art outside of the Rosenthal Education Center. Quiet voices and no running might be good rules to reinforce prior to going into the museum. If the kids have questions about their scavenger hunts, you can locate a docent and they will be happy to help them out.

Here, kids can get creative! They can either hang up their creation or take it home.
You can take pictures! You're allowed to take pictures in the Cincinnati Art Museum. Most exhibits allow pictues but there are some that prohibit photography. You will see a no photography sign clearly stated if this is the case. We saw the "Up at Bat: Warhol and Baseball" exhibit featuring Pete Rose. We weren't allowed to take pictures here. The exhibit is only showing through Aug. 2, 2015 so if you've been enjoying the MLB All-Star festivities, you might want to stop by before it's over. I was able to take a picture of my favorite painting at the Cincinnati Art Museum. It's pictured below: The Red Rooster by Marc Chagall.
It's located in beautiful Eden Park! The Cincinnati Art Museum is located in one of the prettiest parks in Cincinnati. If you're not too tired after visiting the CAM, then enjoy some of the other features of Eden Park (part of the Cincinnati Park District). You can walk around Mirror Lake, stroll through some of the grounds, or head over to the Krohn Conservatory.

There's a delicious cafe on site! Seeing all that art can make you hungry. Luckily, the Terrace Cafe is ready to serve. Their food is really tasty too with a nice variety of salads and sandwiches to choose from. They also have kids meals for $4-5. If you're a CAM member, you can get 10% off your meal.
I hope you'll get a chance to visit the Cincinnati Art Museum soon. It truly is a Cincinnati treasure. Thank you to the wonderful benefactors, ArtsWave and corporate sponsors who value the arts and allow us to enjoy the CAM for free.
